Mallard still holds the world steam speed record at 126mph. Although fitted with a speed recorder in the cab a dynamometer car was needed to provide the accuracy for the record. Next year marks the 75th anniversaray of Mallard’s unbroken record. To celebrate the NRM will bring together all 6 surviving A4s for the first time having shipped two members of the class to Britain from North America.
