Almost a year ago to the day, I asked people to donate their old suitcases for us to use in Station Hall. We had a great response, and many of the items came with fantastic stories – from Herman Booth’s trunk that he used to move house, to this demob suitcase belonging to Eric Udall, who fought in the Battle of the Atlantic during the Second World War.
As we’re getting ever closer to installing the new exhibits in Station Hall, I’m hoping that people can help us out again. We’re looking for a couple of different things:
- Any more suitcases, trunks or packing cases
- Sports equipment – for example, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, golf clubs, etc
- Picnic baskets or other wicker baskets
We’ll be using these items to create platform installations around Station Hall. We’d love to pile our barrows and trolleys high with all sorts of luggage – how about this for some inspiration?
We’re also looking for items you might have used while you were travelling – perhaps something that you never travelled without, your favourite travel read or a momento from a special journey.
If you have something that you’d like to donate, you can contact me either via this blog or by emailing email@example.com. One thing you should know – any items that are donated will not be made part of the collection, and will be used as display props only. You can read the full terms and conditions at the bottom of this post.
One last thing – please don’t just turn up at the door with them! If you contact us in advance then we can make sure somebody will be able to receive the items, and complete a bit of paperwork.
